I was just curious. I have heard of such things but no one I know seems to know so I went to the thing that has all the answers… The internet!
Aroma therapy can be really beneficial to horses…Bach Flower remedies are also very beneficial. Lavender is good for balancing, calming and helping to release nervous tension. Bay Laurel is antisceptic and antifungal. Ylang Ylang creates a euphoric state. Anyway, there is a lot to it, but if you’re intersted, do a little research and you’ll find that there are many great benefits.
Another really cool thing to get a horse "centered" and "balanced" is to incorporate the proper use of color and sound when riding. Rhythm beads are a really cool and fun way to do this. Check out this website if you’re interested (someone turned me onto it a couple of days ago, and I’m really excited to get a set for my horse). www.alternativeequines.webs.com

I do not use it, but I have always heard that lavender oil placed near a horse’s nostrils will calm them down. The only thing I have tried is Vick’s Vapor Rub in a stallion’s nostrils, that is supposed to make them less likely to look at the mares. However, I found that it made the horse look at ALL the horses, since he couldn’t tell which were mares.
