they did it as a precaution because during couple of months the wheat gluten was supplied by the same company which supplied for Menu foods and small amounts of melamine were found.
It concerns dry food Hill’s Feline m/d 4 and 10 lb bags.
Are you as worried as I am about commercial pet foods and that there may be many more foods affected? Are you prepared to start to cook for your cats? And would you like me to put some home made recipes together including prescription diets? I could contact a few vets and publish it on a website http://www.catbehaviortraining.com/catrecipes and you could contribute too if you have some good recipes.

Been giving my cats (one is diabetic)people food for a long time for exactly the above reason. … a bunch of cats got killed and there are no charges filed…if it was cornflakes or baked beans someone would be going to jail….as for what to cook…frozen cooked prawns are easy when you are in a rush in the morning……just pour boiling water on top to defrost..or canned tuna in spring water…..frozen cod/haddock boiled for about 10 min at dinner….usually supplement with cooked slice meat from the deli…for snacks during the day if i am home…occasionally they will eat steak or minced beef or fried chicken (i get a big bag frozen from tesco)….tuna is about the same price as cat food so it makes sense if you care about your cats well being…plus if you do the research on what goes into cat food (apart from the occasional poisoning) you will likely make the change.
In addition, a bunch of the big pet food companies badly mistreat animals so i don’t like to buy from them.

This has been a real scare for dogs and cats. I am not too worried as I feed my dogs a premium dog food with human grade ingredients, Solid Gold. There is no wheat gluton in it, just good stuff. Mayby more people should shy away from the ordinary cat and dog foods and feed premium, or do like you said, start cooking for them. These deaths of beloved pets was unnecessary and horrible.

its only food made with wheat gluton that is affected, if you look at the ingredients on the back of proplan (a premium dog food that my dog eats, adult chicken and rice) it is made with corn gluton and corn gluton is in less demand and can be fund more in the usa. unlike wheat gluton which is in a ton of human food so the pet food industries get whats left that is available.
dry food made with corn gluton (which most is i think) you should be safe

I’ve stopped using hills for about four years now first we was advised to put our cats on them after one of them had gingervitus then they balloned in weight, after one of my cats had cystitus and had to be rushed to the emergency vets, our own vet wouldn’t tell us to stop using it as he was earning a small fortune from us as we have a few cats, the hospital advised us after it happened again, since then we give them a variety of food, in the morning they have pouches with a few biscuits, in the evening they have have a pouch with fresh chicken and vegetables and one of the younger ones who has never had hills as never had the problems we had when they were on them

Thank You. I don’t feed m/d but I do feed them the w/d and I’m chucking all the food and going raw…

Yes, they did a voluntary recall, however it almost killed my cat. I am so upset. I had bloodwork done today.

I used to feed my cat hill’s weight loss food but for some reason, she hasn’t been eating it lately. She must have some sort of sixth sense! I’ll have a look at your recipes and thanks so much for the heads up.

That’s really terrible about all of the pet food recalls. I’ve heard that about sixteen pets have died and many more are sick from the contaminated foods. I think that there are people inside the companies who have been putting the poison in the food. The poison is the same thing that’s used in rat poison, which doesn’t just "accidentally" get in the food. I’m not too worried for myself, because I don’t have a dog or cat, but I think that if you do, you should be very careful.
