It’s that time of year when hosts and hostesses turn their thought to themes for parties celebrating everything from their favorite college or professional football game and Super Bowl parties to Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s parties, and celebrations of All of the other World Holidays during this holiday season.

We at I-ShopTheWorld are what you might call “party people,” so we have some party idea suggestions that will add variety and spice up your party: host a saucy chili cook-off.

Compile your guest list so you can create teams of 3-6 cooks. On your invitation let your guests know they’ll be participating in a chili cook-off and who’ll be on their team (have some extra fun and mix up couples). Ask them to bring any special ingredients they like to use in their chili, but let them know that every thing they could possibly will likely be provided and everyone will be starting with a basic batch of chili you will prepare in advance. Then they can spice it up. Be sure to arrange for enough pots and utensils for each team to have their own. Tell them to BYOA (bring your own apron).

Here’s how it works: The day before your party prepare a big batch of chili starter sauce using your choice of basic ingredients. Here’s one recipe. We suggest you multiply the ingredients to accommodate the number of teams you’ve organized with a hefty batch of starter sauce.

Basic chili sauce recipe to serve 6
? 1 pound lean ground beef or steak chopped into bite-size pieces
? 1/2 cup chopped onion
? 2 chopped garlic cloves
? 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes or tomato puree
? 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
? 1 teaspoon salt (regular or garlic)
Preparation:
Spray the skillet with nonstick cooking spray or a light coating of an oil, such as olive oil. Brown the ground beef or chopped steak with the onion. Add the remaining ingredients stirring as you go. Note, you are not adding beans at this point; your guest cooks get to do that. Cover and simmer for at least 20 minutes. Refrigerate till party time.

On the day of the party, scoop up an equal amount of the basic chili sauce for each team, then invite them to complete the cook-off by adding any of the following ingredients you’ll have available in whatever quantities they prefer:

? cooked, browned ground pork
? pre-cooked sausage
? cans of beans, including kidney, chili, black, cannelloni, and pinto
? cans of vegetarian refried beans with chilies
? cans of tomato sauce or whole tomatoes with and without chilies
? cans of whole kernel corn
? fresh tomatoes
? fresh red, green, and yellow sweet peppers
? fresh jalapeno peppers
? fresh squash and zucchini
? garlic powder
? paprika
? fresh natural black pepper, white pepper, dried chili spice, and India long pepper spice
? an assortment of gourmet Tortuga sauces, such as Sweet Heat Carib, Mango & Ginger Stir Fry, Hot Caribbean Pepper, and Hell Fire Hot Pepper Sauce.
? jars of Tortuga Gourmet Wildflower and Citrus Honey

Give each team a couple of hours to finish the cook-off, then conduct the taste contest and let your guests vote on the best. If you get a wow! Winner, consider having the team try it again for charity, presuming they have kept track of their ingredients and can repeat the taste (check out those opportunities at http://www.chilicookoff.com).

Consider serving other I-ShopTheWorld products like Thai coffee and tea. Treat your guest cooks to beverages made with Tortuga Rum Punch Mix. And, don’t forget the dessert; you’ll be so busy making the basic chili and organizing teams and ingredients, you may want to serve a variety tray of Tortuga Gourmet Fudge, rum balls, or rum cakes.

Go ahead, just do it.

Tell everyone to “pen” in the date, start arranging the details, and place your order online.

Let I-ShopTheWorld help you concoct the sauciest party your family and friends have ever had.

I am SICK of being overweight. I’ve been overweight for 12 years (since I got pregnant) and I figure if I don’t make a dramatic lifestyle change I will be stuck in this motif for life. So I am looking for some good vegetarian recipes because I don’t want to eliminate proteins either from my diet.

For those of you who are going to comment that it’s not only diet, I have already started an excellent exercise program, I just need to compliment it with a good diet.
I did go "vegetarian" if you will, for one summer in my teen years. When I dropped pork out of my diet 8 years ago I missed it for about a week. Dropping all other meats might take me about 3 months to get over it, if I really do it.

I figure myself to be an omnivore currently. I do like salads.

You are obviously a very intelligent person, so it’s a little confusing to me why you would not be able to lick this problem. Finding the perfect vegetarian recipe will not help you IF you eat too much of it. I’m guessing that at this stage you know more about healthy eating than most, so you have asked the wrong question to find a solution to your problem which is obviously causing you some distress. For the next 3 days, keep track of what you eat, and how much. If you have a few nibbles of something before bedtime, include that of course. If you pop a candy or 2 into your mouth now and then, put it down. Then, figure out where you can cut a few corners. Because it’s the amount that’s the problem. I’m thinking you may ingest just enough excess calories to keep on the pounds. In the country where I live people rarely exercise, but don’t get as chubby as in, say, America. They eat slowly and smaller quantities. Simple as that.

I apologize for not answering your question…hope you don’t mind my 2 cents. I could be wrong.

The festive season is a constant frenzy of social events and parties. The planning of an entertaining event, with the right menu that all would enjoy can be scary. To assist you with the task we have put together a list of our special party planning tips to ensure you have great fun at your parties this year!

Plan Ahead. Don’t forget to ask your guests ahead of time if they have special dietary requirements or preferences (allergies, vegetarian, etc). Decide ahead of time what you want to cook, and ensure that you have all the ingredients on hand. You can even go as far as to cook some of the meals beforehand and thereby save yourself a lot of stress.

Try Fewer Side Dishes. Cutting down on the side dishes can save yourself quite a bit of time and effort, there are loads of creative recipes for this time of the year. Bake some home-made bread, pick a salad or two and make a lot of them. This will mean that there’s plenty of food even though there is less variety.

Let Others Help. Another fun way to simplify your meal is to let others help with the cooking. Ask friends to make a favorite dish and bring the recipe to share. You’ll have dinner taken care of and plenty of new entries for your cookbook. In this way it save you a lot of time and effort and everyone feels good that they’ve contributed to the joy of the party.

Use clay pots to hold bread, a birdhouse feed to hold napkins or a child’s inflatable water ring to hold plates. This will make for a more interesting table, using usual things in unusual ways.

Welcoming guests in person at the door makes everybody feel at home instantly. This will remove any uncomfortable moments where the guest wonders if they should just come in, where to put their items, etc. Give them a brief tour of where the food, smoking area, and restrooms are and then direct them to where you want to maintain your guests. Most people will choose a living room or parlor, though with warmer weather, you may choose an outdoor party.

Make sure you also consider the designated drivers and non-drinking friends! Keep a supply of fun and festive non-alcoholic drinks on hand.

Set up a drink and dessert bar. Do it ahead of time and it allow your guests to help themselves.

you can make almost any meal vegetarian!
i personally make vegetarian fajitas.. take onions, mushrooms and bell peppers and cut them into strips and put them in a frying pan with some vegetable oil and cook them for about 15 minutes..when you get finished.. put them into a shell with cheese..sour cream..salsa, tomatoes or whatever you like!!

i also make vegetarian spaghetti.. cut yourself up some onions and mushrooms and fry them in a frying pan with some garlic powder, parsley, oregano, and italian seasoning for aout 15 minutes or until done..and then take your favorite spaghetti sauce and heat it up in a different pot and then add the onions and mushrooms.. boil your noodles and then put your sauce over the noodles!! add some sprinkle cheese for flavor! its good!!

a thirs thing i would like to share with you is mozerella broccoli.. you boil your broccoli until done..you put it in the bottom of a saucepan and then mix one can of cream of mushroom and one container of sour cream.. you pour that over the broccoli and then put mozzerella cheese all over the top and bake at 350 for twenty minutes or until finished!

with the vegetarian lasagna..its a little more complicated..but i can tell you specifically.. i got this from food.com and i have used it more than once!! here it is..

you’ll need..
1 1/2 quarts spaghetti sauce
1/2 cup grated carrot
1/2 teaspoon oregano
6 cooked lasagna noodles
1 (16 ounce) container ricotta cheese
1 (16 ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and well drained
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups thinly sliced zucchini
1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
3 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese

then you just follow these directions..

Mix carrots, oregano, and spaghetti sauce together. 2 Mix Ricotta, spinach, and eggs together in separate bowl. 3 Spread ½ cup spaghetti sauce in bottom of 9 x 13 inch baking dish. 4 Layer 3 lasagna noodles, ½ remaining sauce, ½ Ricotta mixture, ½ sliced zucchini, ½ sliced mushrooms, ½ Mozzarella, and ½ Parmesan. 5 Repeat layers with remaining ingredients. 6 Bake in 350 degrees oven for about 45 minutes
